AFL great Barry Hall has been sacked by FM radio network Triple M after making a vulgar on-air comment.

The 289-game legend and Hall of Famer was speaking to former St Kilda player and co-commentator Leigh Montagna during a pre-game chat at Friday night’s clash between the Western Bulldogs and Geelong at Etihad Stadium.

According to afl.com.au, the topic turned to Montagna’s wife, Erin, who is about to give birth to the couple’s first child at any moment.

That was when Hall made a vulgar comment inspired by talk of medical measures used to bring on labour.

The comment was so unseemly The New Daily will not repeat it, although audio of the slur has been posted on YouTube and other social media.

“Tonight on Triple M Football, there were unacceptable and inappropriate comments made by a member of the commentary team,” network head of content Mike Fitzpatrick said in a statement.

“The commentator was removed immediately from the broadcast and an apology was issued on air afterwards.

“Immediate action was taken with the termination of employment for one team member.”

Famous on the field for “brain snaps” that saw him clobber opponents without warning, Hall was dumped by the Sydney Swans and played his last seasons with the Western Bulldogs.

He was filling in for Chris Judd during the Triple M broadcast.

Considered one of the best forwards of the modern era, the 41-year-old kicked 746 goals and captained the Swans to their 2005 premiership.
