Amid swirling fan theories she is being held in a wellness facility against her will, Britney Spears has reappeared on social media to tell fans she’s “well” during ongoing mental health treatment.

“Hi guys, just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me,” Spears, 37, said in a video she posted to Instagram on Tuesday (US time.)

“All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I just needed time to deal. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”

The video was watched more than 2.7 million times in two hours.

But while the tone of the video message was cautiously upbeat, the Baby One More Time star said in a long accompanying caption that “things have gotten out of control” with reports about her.

“There’s rumours, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things – crazy things being said,” wrote Spears, who said life is “throwing hard things” at her now.

“I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me.

“My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment.”

I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear. These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago… I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address. My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment 🌸🌸🌸 You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you ❤️❤️❤️

She slammed her former manager and boyfriend Sam Lutfi for allegedly being behind “fake emails” and indirectly addressed the #freebritney movement, which has suggested she needs rescuing from the facility.

Fans questioning the star’s treatment gathered on Monday night outside West Hollywood City Hall in Los Angeles, demanding she is released.

The protest was reportedly sparked by photos of Spears appearing dazed on ‘day release’ in LA on April 21.

Fans reacted with disbelief to Hollywood Life’s assertion Spears looked “great” on the outing.

“Right, seems totally normal,” said one Twitter user. “Are you being sarcastic? She looks depressed and lost,” said another.

Hours before Spears’ Instagram message, her boyfriend Sam Asghari, 25, told TMZ the singer is “doing great. She’s doing amazing.

“Nobody needs to worry.”

Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn Spears, 28, shared a throwback Instagram video early on Tuesday showing Britney being harassed by paparazzi.

“I have been here long before anyone else, and I’ll be here long after,” Jamie Lynn said.

“I love my sister with everything I have. So, anyone or anything that speaks to the contrary can [get the f–k out of here] with all the comments about what you don’t understand.”

Spears’ decision to seek the 30-day treatment came after she cancelled a new Las Vegas residency in January while dealing with stress related to the spontaneous rupture of her father Jamie’s colon in November.

According to People, a complicating factor was that she was also struggling with adjustments to medications she’s been taking for some time to aid her mental health.

As doctors tweaked her drug regimen, Spears found the adjustment challenging.

“She recognised she needed to focus on her own health and sought treatment,” a source told People.

“No one forced her to go.”

In 2007, crippling anxiety led to Spears having a highly-publicised breakdown that saw her lose custody of sons Sean, now 13, and Jayden, 12.

She was hospitalised twice on a 72-hour psychiatric ‘hold’ and her estate was placed under the control of her father and a lawyer.
